HI EVERYONE!
My name is Anna Baker and I am a filmmaker and photographer from Coquitlam, B.C. Canada. Growing up I was extremely fortunate to be partly raised in Freeport, Grand Bahama. A very special place with magical powers that sparked this intense passion for film within me. I officially began my filmmaking career in 2018 after graduating in the Documentary program at Capilano University. I worked in reality television for almost three years and between contracts grew my business in the freelance creative world. I am currently freelancing full time.
I love creating in the sense of taking on multiple roles. Cinematography, photography, producing, editing and directing. Even though I am working my way to being more of a full time director, I can never manage to keep my hands off my camera or computer, and I don't think I ever will. :D … No I defiantly never will.
PASSION
I am extremely passionate about traveling and making new connections. Traveling and meeting people is a beautiful gift, and something I believe so strongly in, especially with an open mind. It pushes you to learn new perspectives, cultures, lifestyles, and ultimately it benefits you and your creativity. I believe this really translates into my work, especially when with clients. Dialing in on what they want to express, while collaborating and adding my own flare and direction to it. Two minds are always greater than one.
Since I was young I always dreamt of having a career connected to the ocean. Being brought up on this small island surrounded by beautiful blue water truly inspired me. It especially inspired me when I grew up to learn it wasn't just beautiful blue water, but a dying, vulnerable ecosystem that desperately needed our help. I began my free-diving career in 2021, and since have been working on perfecting my underwater photography. I am currently in post production on my passion project ‘Above is Below’ to shift perspectives on the worlds most misunderstood predator, the Tiger Shark.
WITH LOVE
When people ask me why I chose this career I say, “I want to try to make some type of change and impact for our earth”. When I think of documentary films I think of education, a way for humans (the audience) to educate themselves in an effortless way. Documentaries hold this intense power of storytelling. Stories that can shift perspectives and create major calls to action. It can change lives and mentalities, and to me, there's nothing more inspiring than that.
